2 months agoI usually have a great experience at this chain of restaurants. The astoria & Brooklyn location serve the best encebollado I've tried in queens. ( trust me I've tried them all) This particular location seems to have the recipe all wrong. I tried to ask if they have a different chef or recipe but the workers seem not to know much information. I'll never return! Go elsewhere!

2 months agoDISCLAIMER: This is a review about a delivery order, I have never been in the restaurant. Ordered an encebollado de pescado for $25 (on doordash, costs $22 in the restaurant) excited about finally trying the food from this famous Ecuadorian restaurant, haven't had one in a while. Total disappointment. Poor portion for a $25 dish, the yuca didn't taste fresh at all (reminded me of the yuca from the canned encebollados), the broth lacked flavor (nothing that a lot of lemon, aji and oil cannot fix) and received barely 3 small slices of fish (which did taste good). Didn't receive cilantro and pickled onions (had to add them myself) with my dish. Tasted like any $1 encebollado in ecuador, which would be fine if it costed $1, paying $25 for this disappointment is a shame, and will never have an encebollado there again. Overall it tastes like encebollado in a can with only a different fish. Again, it did not taste bad, but it was worth barely $2. Will try again if the price drops < $5 (I am sure even here, they still will be making a profit)

2 months agoThe food is always great! However Miss Lorena C. the Absolute WORST! Never came to our table to check on us, ignored us the entire time, looked very unhappy, and the food took forever to get to us. Even a soda took more than 20 minutes. Not sure how this restaurant is training their staff but it has gone down hill in just a few months. DO BETTER BARZOLA

5 months agoI’m very disappointed with this restaurant. The food itself is good, but the customer service for delivery orders is really bad. Most of the time, they either leave something out or send the wrong order. Yesterday, I ordered sopa de pata de vaca and filete de pescado frito. First, after waiting for over an hour, I had to call to check on my order. When the food finally arrived, the meat in the soup was so hard that it was impossible to eat. On top of that, instead of sending filete de pescado frito, they sent filete de pescado a la plancha. I called to complain, and it felt like they didn’t believe me at first. They did send the correct filete de pescado frito, but when it was delivered, they asked me to return the fish they had sent by mistake. That made me uncomfortable. I can only hope they didn’t resell that returned fish to another customer. This is frustrating because the food has potential, but the repeated mistakes and poor handling of complaints ruin the experience.

8 months agoCame off the plane at LGA starving. Discovered Barzola - fantastic food within minutes drive. Nice music, Jonas great with service. Totally recommend. Seafood over rice - fantastic and filling!

11 months agoFood is very good. The Barzola chain is probably the best for Ecuadorian food compared to other restaurants. The price though is very high for drinks and food. The encebollado is always excellent, llapingachos is very good as well. We always get the empanada and it comes out hot and fresh and the mochines are the best.

a year agoLooking for Ecuadorian restaurants sounds easy in Queens. My family is from the Coast and taste vary depending on the region. Although we are from the same country, flavor and seasoning for Soups are the hardest to come close. Most restaurants have a home feel, meaning not much decoration just good food. This place has a little bit of a different feel, vibrant and energetic setting. For an Ecuadorian restaurant, they should offer Ecuadorian beer. Ordered the “Caldo de Salchicha” Popular Blood sausage hearty soup. This soup is loaded with all kinds of internal meat. The flavor was delicious. Couple of issues, the soup was served luke warm. Second the plantain sausage was flavored with the same as the Caldo de Bola. It wasn’t bad, just that those sausages are only supposed to carry plantain filling without meat. This one had meat like the filling for the balls for “Caldo de Bola”. I would recommend they quality check the temperature of the food when served. Since I only had the soup and no other plates. I’ll try it again before I give a final review.

a year agoWow! Very impressed with the caldo the Bola & frozen red Sangria. They were excellent. The service and attentions by our server Mayi was great! She took the time to explain a few dishes and make recommendations. Can’t wait to comeback.
